The fear VS massive action dance is something I notice with nearly all freelancers.
It’s especially an issue for those of us who have trouble making consistent $5k months as our baseline. If you’ve ever thought, “Ok, I have to make some money this month and it’s already toward the end of the month… I guess it’s already game over” then you, my friend, are in FEAR.
You’ve already written yourself off and it’s BULLSHIT.
Fear Drains Your Energy
The reason this is so dangerous is because you’re DRAINING precious energy that you need to take MASSIVE ACTION.
Think about when you’re terrified about money, not finding a client, or not paying your rent and let me ask you, do you feel like you have much energy?
The answer is probably no. The truth is that the amount of brainpower that’s hyperfocused on what you don’t have is far greater than if you would just take that massive action and not convince yourself that it’s too late.
It’s never too late. Send those pitches, connect with those clients, and forget your fear.
Massive Action Looks Like WORK
Everybody underestimates how much this is going to take.
When I started my freelance business, I connected with 12, 16, 20 people a day – and THAT’S what got my business off the ground.
Did I have every reason to be afraid? Sure. I literally had $75 and I wasn’t sure where the money for bills was going to come from. I was in such a state of financial insecurity that it would have been REALLY easy for me to not take action.
It takes A LOT of energy to be unsuccessful, broke, and unhappy. But when you start taking that massive action and put the energy that goes into fear, worry, and frankly, giving up, into sending those pitches and signing those clients, you WILL see your circumstances start to shift.
Your Life Is SUPPOSED To Look Different
And yes, you WILL need to expend energy! But there’s a much healthier, saner way to catapult yourself out of the position you’re in if you take responsibility and step up for the choices you WANT.
Running a successful freelance business will absolutely require you to take more action than those around you – especially if you compare yourself to your 9-5 friends. You’ll have to hustle and work more in the beginning, but you know what else you’ll have?
Everything that happens in your life is designed by YOU – the good AND the bad. The beauty of this is that you can change what you don’t like at ANY moment. All it takes is accountability and giving fear a swift kick to the curb.
You’re A Boss – Start Acting Like One!
Do not confuse freelancing with, “I just get to take things as they come.” This is a business that you ACTIVELY have to construct – especially in the beginning.
One of the things that will make you broke is being on the fence. THAT is what will drain your bank account. The people that succeed are the people who lead their lives with massive action and commit to making it work.
That’s what bosses do.
What we’ve seen from six-figure freelancers is that they didn’t make excuses, they invested where they needed to, they didn’t let fear hold them by the balls every day, and if they knew they were taking the right action steps but weren’t getting traction yet, they RAMPED IT UP.
The best favor you can do for yourself is show yourself that you ARE going to show up and do the work because the reward of getting the financial pressure off of you is SO great.
